UFC on FOX 9: Pettis-Grant and McDonald-Faber Targeted

Urijah Faber

The UFC is planning a couple of marquee match-ups for UFC on FOX 9 as the promotion plans for UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis vs. T.J. Grant in the main event and Michael McDonald vs. Urijah Faber in the co-main event. The prospective bouts were announced on tonight’s edition of UFC Tonight on FOX Sports 1.

The main event for the Sacramento card will see lightweight champion Anthony Pettis make his first title defense against the man he replaced at UFC 164, T.J.Grant. Pettis picked up the belt by defeating Benson Henderson at UFC 164, “Showtime” takes a four fight win streak into the bout with Grant. While there was concern about his knee, it appears Pettis would be ready for the December showdown.

The possible co-main event basically made itself at UFC Fight Night 26, as both McDonald and Faber both won and showed a willingness to face off with each other. Both fighters have challenged for a belt in the bantamweight division, and this bout could decide who gets the next title shot.

UFC on FOX 9 heads to Sacramento, California on December 19. The FOX network event will take place at the Sleep Train Arena (formerly the ARCO Arena), with prelims airing via FOX Sports 1 and Facebook. More bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
