Poor Healy! The grizzled grappler has been bearded for a long time and seemed to have channeled its power into a potential title-shot after winning six straight (not to mention a seventh bout later changed to a No Contest due to marijuana use). However, he was forced to shave it to minimal proportions against Nurmagomedov and lost a fairly one-sided decision. Coincidence? Doubtful.
When it comes to Mixed Martial Arts, the term “beard” is typically made in reference to the durability of a competitor’s jaw. However, after UFC lightweight Pat Healy was forced to trim his chin-strap down before a bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 165 the topic of facial hair has once again made headlines. Of course, Healy’s beard is one of the many impressive mounds of hair sprouting from the face of the organization’s athletes. (Photos by USA Today Sports Images)
