UFC 167: Sonnen Admits “Wand” Has Become a “Distraction”

Chael Sonnen

Chael Sonnen may have a key fight booked for UFC 167, when he’ll look to defeat another former light-heavyweight champ in Rashad Evans, but “The American Gangsta” continues to field questions about his rival Wanderlei Silva. Especially since the former PRIDE champ just released a video where not only did he call out Sonnen once more, but Silva got in his face at a recent Mr. Olympia event. As one would expect, the vid spawned plenty of discussion on this internet thingy.

While Silva might be happy to see that people are still buzzing about the possibility of Silva-Sonnen happening, the latter evidently is sick of talking about “The Axe Murder.” Especially right now, as his attention should be focused on Evans. While speaking to MMA recently, here is some of what Sonnen had this to say about Silva:

“He’s a distraction,” said Sonnen, who also conceded the entire situation angers him. “He’s a distraction, no doubt about it.”

“It comes back to, on one hand this is pretty weird, man. On the other hand, well done. Well done. You wanted attention. It worked. You’re staying in the headlines by staying out of the Octagon. It’s very hard to stay in the news when you don’t have a fight, and here he is doing it.”

Oh, and as far as the idea that the ‘confrontation’ in the aforementioned vid seemed staged? Sonnen still insists it was all legit and not orchestrated. Huh. At any rate, chances are talk regarding Sonnen-Silva is going to halt anytime soon.
