It appears UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will not defend his title against Glover Teixeira at UFC 169 like the promotion originally reported. UFC president Dana White stated the bout will likely take place this March at a to-be-determined location.
White talked of the bout during a media call earlier today, stating, “Jones-Teixeira is not happening on Super Bowl, that was never a done deal. It’s later in the year.” The bout, which was announced by the promotion, was apparently never officially agreed upon for February 1 according to White. The UFC kingpin blamed the confusion on a miscommunication with the promotion’s PR department.
When asked about what fight would headline the Newark, New Jersey card, White stated that nothing is official at this time. A heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem is currently the only bout scheduled for the card.
