Araujo Edges Alcantara

TUF 16’s Igor Araujo made his official UFC debut tonight by defeating Ildemar Alcantara tonight in Brazil. The bout was not particuarly exciting, as Alcantara faded hard during the fight but still had enough in the tank to avoid a finish. Alcantara is likely at risk for release after that fight, while Araujo has now won two straight since his time on TUF and runs his overall streak to five straight pro victories.

Cabral Dominates Mitchell

TUF: Brazil 2’s Yan Cabral had to wait awhile to land a fight with David Mitchell but it was worth it after coming out with a victory. Cabral dominated Mitchell in all phases of the fight with superior power and skill over their three round fight. Cabral improves to 11-0 as a professional with the victory, while Mitchell falls to 1-4 in the Octagon.

Cariaso Comes Back to Finish Santos

It was not easy, but Chris Cariaso snapped his two-fight losing streak tonight against Brazil’s Iliarde Santos. Cariaso survived a brutal opening frame that saw him battered by the Brazilian. The second round seemed to be heading that way before Cariaso landed a shot behind Santos’s ear. From that point, it was all Cariaso before he finally finished the fight with a late barrage of strikes. The victory snaps Cariaso’s two-fight losing streak and runs Santos’s to three.

Patrick Stops Whiteley

In tonight’s opener, Brazilian Alan Patrick excited the home town crowd with a solid knockout victory over fellow newcomer Garett Whitely. Patrick cracked Whitely with a vicious counter hook when Whiteley errantly led with an uppercut. The Brazilian quickly followed up with big strikes that forced referee Marc Goddard to call a stop to the action in the first. The debut victory improved Patrick to 11-0 in his MMA career.
