MMAFrenzy’s coverage of the UFC’s pay-per-view action continues with our UFC 166: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos III Play-by-Play. Our coverage will begin tonight at 10PM ET and continue through tonight’s main event pitting UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos in the Octagon. UFC 166 Play-by-Play:

John Dodson vs. Darrell Montague

Rd. 1- Dodson opens up the striking but Montague counters with legkicks. Nice power legkick by Montague and Dodson responds in kind. Nice left-right combo by Dodson. Crowd is booing already and it is not deserved. Big legkick by Dodson. Massive right by Dodson and Montague somehow survives but gets taken down. Montague pops up and he gets swarmed. Montague tries a desperation takedown and slows down the fight but Dodson connects again as he stands. Montague appears to have shaken it off and Dodson wisely stays patient. Wicked left hand by Dodson causes a delayed faceplant by Montague and the ref dives in as Dodson finishes it off.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Shawn Jordan

Rd. 1-Jay Stafin is tonight’s referee. Jordan seizes the center of the cage and stalks forward. Nice right by GG. Jordan is using feints to test the defense of GG early. Combo by Jordan. Gonzaga catches Jordan coming in with a combo and GG’s counters connect flush. It is all over after some follow-up strikes. Wow.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Diego Sanchez

Rd. 1- Kerry Hatley is our referee. Sanchez seizes the center of the cage immediately. Sanchez catches a headkick and takes Melendez’s back. Sanchez has the choke briefly but Melendez swings him off and connects to the body. Another right to the body by Gil. Nice legkick by Diego. Melendez is pressuring now as Diego shoots a single. Nice punch on the exit by Gil. Gil stuffs another takedown and Gil lands again on the exit. Another body shot by Gil. Nice uppercut by Gil. Pair of big rights by Gil. Sanchez with a body kick and Melendez catches the kick. Diego is already bleeding now Sanchez has almost no rhythm on his strikes so far. Nice body shots and combo by Gil. Two body kicks by Diego. Sanchez connects with a nice combo. At the ten second mark these guys just start swinging like Yasiel Puig in a batting cage. Diego is dropped but bounces up and survives. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Melendez.

Rd. 2- Sanchez is waving Gil to come in early. Body to head punches by Gil. Wicked rights by Gil as Sanchez storms. Diego swings wildly but gets countered easily. These two are just going with crazy exchanges now. Referee calls a stop to the bout to check a nasty cut on Diego but Diego says it’s just vaseline causing him to blink and we restart. Body shots by Gil answer a flying attack by Diego. Wicked right tot the chin by Sanchez. Another wild exchange by both guys and they both lands shots. This is a war. Diego slips on a kick and he escapes without serious damage. Both are smiling in the cage. Nasty body kick by Diego. Wicked combination by Gil. Sanchez with a takedown but Gil is right back up and lands a nasty strike on the exit. Sanchez connects. Sanchez gets dropped to a knee when Gil counters him but he is back up. Sanchez with another takedown that’s stuffed and eats a knee as he stands. Sanchez is a bloody mess as the round ends. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Melendez.

Rd. 3- Front kick to the head by Gil. Nice combo by Diego. Gil responds with a combo of his own. Wild exchange and Diego lands but Gil crushes his ribs. Nice 1-2 by Gil. Holy crap what an exchange, these guys are trading hooks and Diego is screaming at Gil to keep it going. These guys are going to war! Gil is starting to land more at the end and the referee again stops the action to the chagrin of the fighters and the crowd. Doctor waves it on and the crowd loves the blood bath. Sanchez to the ribs off the break. 2:30 left and the crowd is chanting Diego as these two are just going insane on each other. Absolute war as Gil gets caught with an absolutely nasty upper cut and Diego pounces and looks for the choke. The crowd is going in sane but Gil works out of the RNC and a guillotine and a big combo by Gil as they stand. This fight is amazing! Only 0:50 seconds left as Gil takes his back but Sanchez hits a switch to escape. Body kick by Diego. They’re swinging for the fences as the round ends and holy shit what a fight!!! Diego gets the round but Gil gets the fight 29-28.

Daniel Cormier vs. Roy Nelson

Rd. 1- Jacob McDonald is our ref for the co-main event. Nelson is looking for big punches early. Cormier ducks a punch and lands a single leg to a cradle. Nelson recovers full guard but gets stuck in the cradle again. Hard punches by Cormier as he lets go. Roy gives up his back to stand and Cormier again has him down. Big knee by Cormier. Cormier drops to a single and Nelson goes for a kimura and DC works out. DC is really out-grappling Nelson and smothering the bigger fighter with good movement and technique. Big knee to the body by Cormier. Roy looks over the top and eats two big knees and a punch to the body. Ref stops it for low blow and it looks like the main force hit the gut of Nelson but it allows Nelson to breathe for a second. Touch of gloves on the restart. Headkick by Cormier. Jab by Cormier as Nelson again loads up. Legkick by Nelson. Big punch by Nelson is missed and huge left by DC. Nelson swings wildly and misses yet again and he is already winded. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Cormier.

Rd. 2- DC takes the center of the cage again. Jab by Nelson. Cormier is just out of range of the huge strikes from Nelson. Great legkick by Cormier and he feints a takedown to a nice right. Cormier’s movement is unreal so far. Nelson is gassing as his mouth is wide open. Big combo by Cormier backs up Nelson and Cormier drops to a takedown and it’s in the clinch. Huge knees to the body by DC and he lands a takedown but Nelson scrambles up. DC is controlling the clinch now. Nelson is trying a guillotine but it is not even close. Nice uppercut by DC. DC breaks and lands a few combos before clinching again. Beautiful combo by Cormier lands flush and he throws another. Nelson is breathing hard. Jabs by Cormier and he lands two big rights as well. Nelson storms but hits air. Switch kick by DC and he lands another combo as the clapper sounds. Nelson is gassed bad. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Cormier (20-18).

Rd. 3- Touch of gloves by the fighters at the start. Cormier is using a low to high kick so far. Nelson is only looking for the knockout now. Nice overhand right by DC. More combos by DC and he lands some hard legkicks now too. DC fakes the takedown to land a left. Spinning fist by DC and a kick. Teep to the face by DC. Legkicks by DC and a big body kick too. Roy loads up on a left and gets tagged by a combo. Jab by DC stops a Nelson right. Nelson is completely gassed now. Big right by DC and he lands a takedown but doesn’t have great control and he lets Nelson go. Low to high kick by DC again.Nelson is taunting DC but DC’s movent is perfect and he is outlanding Nelson with ease. 0:20 left and they’re swinging. Nelson lands a legkick that causes DC to slip but he’s good. MMAFrenzy has it a shutout for Cormier 30-27.

UFC Heavyweight Title Fight: Cain Velasquez (c) vs. Junior dos Santos

Rd. 1- Ungodly tense staredown. JDS stuns Cain off the bat twice. Velasquez with a takedown a guillotine. JDS breaks free and tags Cain again. Clinch work by Cain now. Combo by JDS along the fence and Cain responds in kind. Headkick by JDS and Cain locks up a body lock. Cain is working knees in the clinch and lands a takedown off a bodylock. Big elbow by Cain as he settles into halfguard. JDS gives up his back to escape and he eats big punches. JDS gets back up and eats a knee and Cain immediately attacks the double again. Foot sweep attempt by Cain. Nice combo by Cain. Hard uppercuts by Cain now. Cain with the Greco clinch now and he is just seizing control with knees and punches. JDS breaks away for a second to try a spinning kick that whiffs. JDS breathing hard as the round ends. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Velasquez.

Rd. 2-Cain pressures again and JDS lands a right hook but Cain shakes it off and attacks along the cage. More knees to the legs by Cain in the clinch. Punches from Cain now in the clinch. Wild combo attempt by Cain but JDS shows great head movement and avoids the kill shots. Hard jabs by Cain and he clinches. Big knee by Cain now and starts throwing to the legs again. Cain drives a takedown and they appear to have damaged the fence as referee Herb Dean tries to brace it. Takedown by JDS but Cain is back up and lands two big rights. Cain back in clinch control now. JDS’s face is wearing the damage now. You can hear UFC crew members scrambling to fix the cage as the action goes away from the blue door. Both fighters catch each other at the end of the round. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Velasquez (20-18).

Rd. 3- Big right to open the action in the third by JDS. Cain shakes it off and pressures in. Bigleft connects by Cain and he lands another strong right. Cain is working JDS’s legs with knees in the clinch. Uppercut by Cain. JDS is busted up now but he lands a solid elbow and knee but it doesn’t get Cain off him. JDS breaks free and swings wildly again. Crowd starting to boo Cain’s clinch attack now. JDS is landing but then he is floored by a huge shot from Cain. Cain drops him again with a vicious 1-2 and Herb starts to step in but backs off. JDS is somehow standing but he is getting drilled. Cain slows down the effort after it’s obvious JDS is recovering but JDS is still wobbly. Left by Cain and a solid uppercut too. Big right by Cain and JDS is hurting. Dean is giving this one a long look and the crowd is back to cheering again. Somehow JDS survives the round but it was close. MMAFrenzy has it 10-8 Cain (30-26).

Rd. 4- Doctor gave JDS a long look between rounds. Cain looks fresh, it’s unreal. Huge right by Cain and he clinches and then he separates to land another massive combo. JDS is pouring blood now and Herb Dean is staying close. Cain breaks again and lands another combo. JDS looks like he’s fighting in water now as he slows. Cain threatens with both an outside and inside trip but elects to strike insteand. Cain breaks and JDS swings but Cain is in control and he lands hard foot stomps as he clinches again. Big right by JDS off a break and he lands another before catching Cain with an uppercut. JDS still has power but Cain is in total control here. Cain is having trouble seeing due to the amount of blood pouring off JDS. Dean stops the fight to let the doc check him and his left eye is almost swollen shut and there’s cuts above both eyes. Cain is covered in JDS’s blood. Short elbow by JDS but he eats a big right. Another elbow and a pair of left hooks by JDS. Cain still in control though. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Cain (40-35).

Rd. 5-Doctors give JDS yet another very long look but allow it to continue. It’s unreal how Cain is seemingly not tired. Left by JDS but he’s takendown by Cain with ease. Triangle attempt by JDS but he’s too slippery. JDS is back up and he eats more damage. JDS is even more of a mess now than in the first fight. Cain is landing hard short uppercuts in the clinch now. JDS with an elbow to separate but Cain again connects and pressures. JDS breaks free but he is just wildly swinging now. JDS tries a last ditch Ninja choke but Cain hits a sweet rollout that essentially knocks out JDS as Cain finishes it with a final blow.
