Bellator 107’s co-main event saw the Season 9 bantamweight tournament crown decided as Joe Warren took on Travis Marx. The bout saw the self-proclaimed “Baddest Man on the Planet” take the crown as Warren put on a solid all-round display in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Warren Crushes Marx for Bantamweight Tourney Crown
Joe Warren put on a great total performance to get the Season 9 bantamweight tournament crown tonight at the WinStar World Casino. Warren dominated most of the fight with his overwhelming wrestling advantage but it was his striking that would get him the impressive victory. Warren secure the KO victory with a perfectly place knee from the Thai clinch that essentially ended the fight for Marx.
Warren is now the second Bellator MMA fighter to win a tournament in two different divisions. Warren will now face off with Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas when the Brazilian returns from a knee injury in 2014.
Rd. 1- Legkicks and jabs to start the fight for Marx. Nice combination by Marx but Warren lands a strong body lock takedown. Marx works up but Warren tosses him back down to side control. Marx works up and lands some knees before they break. Very hard slam takedown by Warren as Marx tries a guillotine that has no chance. Warren works to crucifix from half guard, interesting, and lands some effective strikes. Marx is trying strikes from the bottom but there is not much on them. Marx recovers guard but eats some more strikes and Warren throws some hard knees to the body before Marx finally stands. Marx tries to work out but gets thrown to the canvas before the round ends. MMAFrenzy says it is 10-9 Warren.
Rd. 2- Touch of gloves to start the round. More exciting strikes by Warren to start the round. Marx is outstriking Warren. Warren with a nice combo finished by a hard body shot. Nice takedown by Warren and he is controlling the fight. Warren takes Marx’s back while standing and absorbs some elbows. Warren takes the hook out and lands one knee from the Thai clinch and Marx is done. Referee needs two more strikes before he decides to step in but Marx was done.
