UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his title this February as he faces Glover Teixeira in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two fighters will headline the February 22 card at the Mandalay Bay Event Center. The news was first announced by UFC president Dana White on UFC Tonight.
Jones was last in action at UFC 165, where he battled Alexander Gustafsson in what was arguably the best fight of the year. The narrow victory was Jones’ tenth straight victory and his sixth straight title defense.
Teixeira earned his preordained title shot by defeating Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28. Despite being knocked down early, Teixeira would rally to land a decisive TKO victory over the former Sun Devil wrestler. Teixeira carries a 20-fight win streak into the fight with the champ.
More bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
