Mike Ciesnolevicz who recently defeated heavyweight Neil Grove via submission at UFC 95 in February has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled light heavyweight bout at UFC 97 against “The Ultimate Fighter 8” cast member Elliot Marshall, due to an undisclosed injury. Stepping in on short notice to replace the injured fighter is Marshall’s TUF 8 teammate Vinny Magalhaes, according to MMAWeekly.
Both fighters will bring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt honors into the cage with them on fight night. This will be their first encounter with one another in MMA, though that have competed against one other in grappling tournaments in the past.
During their stint on “The Ultimate Fighter” Magalhaes took exception when Marshall and fellow teammate Krzysztof Soszynski were discussing facing one another in the Finale. Magalhaes went on to defeat Soszynski in the semi-finals before losing to Ryan Bader in the finale. Marshall, on the other hand lost to Bader in the semi-finals.
