Al Iaquinta trains with the likes of former UFC champion Matt Serra and current UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman.
He knows what it takes to go the distance inside the Octagon, as well, having done so in each of his previous two wins.
Iaquinta did it once again Saturday night at UFC 169, scoring a decision victory over Kevin Lee. “Ragin Al” nearly finished the Octagon newcomer in the first, but had to survive an attack in the second.
Once it reached the final five minutes, Iaquinta wasn’t going to be denied.
“(The) third round, that’s my round,” he said. “I don’t lose there.”
Since a loss in the TUF final to Michael Chiesa, Iaquinta (8-2-1) has defeated Lee, Piotr Hallmann and Ryan Couture.
“He was tough,” Iaquinta said. “I almost had him in the first round, but he pulled through it and kept his composure.
“Second round…I got caught in a familiar position, but I was able to get through it.”
