Former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren will return to the cage this May in Singapore for ONE FC.
Askren, appearing on MMAjunkie Radio, confirmed that he will debut for the promotion this spring, and is expected to face the winner of Brock Larson-Nobutatsu Suzuki for the title.
“It’s nice they gave me an immediate title shot,” said Askren, who left Bellator after his contract expired. “I proved my worth in my past fights so I can just hop in there and go right for the title.”
Askren (12-0) is a former Olympic wrestler and was expected to sign with the UFC after he left Bellator. Instead, he selected ONE FC, the top promotion in Asia.
His deal with ONE FC is for two years and six fights. Askren was a 2008 Olympic wrestler and a four-time NCAA All-American at the University of Missouri.
