No doubt his has been the story of the week, Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC) had to pull out of the fight with Chael Sonnen (28-14-1 MMA, 7-6 UFC) and fellow Middleweight fighter Vitor Belfort (24-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) will step in for Silva to fight Sonnen at UFC 175.

Well after the news has settled, UFC President Dana White gives his take on the situation.

“I’m not saying he’ll get a title shot, but it will be big for him,” Dana White told Fighters Only. “The fight has been made at middleweight though, so, we’ll see what happens.”

Sonnen has gone out of his way to get inside his opponent’s head, he has been on an up and down roller coaster ride. Since losing to Anderson Silva in their first fight back in 2010, Sonnen has a 3-3 record in his last six fights, two of those have been for gold.

White said that “as far as I know, it’s [185],” regarding Sonnen vs. Belfort, adding, “But, maybe (UFC executive) Lorenzo (Fertitta) talked to those two, and maybe they both wanted a fight at 205. But it doesn’t really make sense for title implications at 185 if it takes place at 205.”

UFC 175 takes place July 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Prelims will air on Fight Pass and Fox Sports 1, while the main card will air on PPV.

The headling fight is Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida and in the co-main event will be Ronda Rousey vs. Alexis Davis. Belfort – Sonnen will still be the third main event.
