Even though it might be a stretch to get the UFC to sign Eddie Alvarez before UFC 178, the promotion is looking to sign the current, reigning, defending Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. The opponent that the UFC is looking to fight Alvarez is Donald Cerrone. It should be noted that Alvarez is still under contract with Bellator and would have to get out of his current contract, which he is begging to do and then sign a contract with the UFC.

Donald Cerrone (23-6-1) has three wins by knockout, 15 wins by submission and five by decision in his MMA career. In his last four fights he is 3-1, he lost to Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision back in August of 2013. Since then he has been on a three fight winning streak with wins over Evan Dunham via Triangle Choke back in November, then a 1st RD knockout win over Adriano Martins in January of this year. Finally, in his last fight he beat Edson Barboza via rear naked choke last month at UFC on Fox 11. He is coming off a win over Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night 45.

The main event will be between Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier. UFC 178 will happen on September 27 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
