This is the live blog for the undercard of UFC Fight Night 48, which takes place at the Venetian Macau in Macau, China, and airs on UFC Fight Pass.  There are six fights set for the prelim portion of the card.  Wang Sai vs. Danny Mitchell, Alberto Mina vs. Shinzo Anzai, Roland Delorme vs. Yuta Sazaki, Wang Anying vs. Colby Covington, Yao Zhikui vs. Royston Wee, and Elizabeth Phillips vs. Milana Dudieva will be featured on the prelims.

Elizabeth Phillips vs. Milana Dudieva

Round 1:

No glove touch to start this one off.  Phillips opens up with a jab and a leg kick.  Dudieva swings and misses with a hard right hand.  Phillips circles around the cage a bit, and Dudieva throws another overhand right, but misses.  Dudieva throws a few more hard right hands and clinches up with Phillips.  Dudieva almost got a throw but Phillips was able to keep it off the mat as they jockey for position in the clinch.  Phillips looks for a guillotine but gets taken down.  She gets up briefly but Dudieva returns her to the mat and tries to take her back.  Phillips transitions to top position and lands some big ground and pound shots as the round ends. scores the round 10-9 Phillips.  

Round 2:

Phillips is lighter on her feet while Dudieva is plodding forward a bit more.  Dudieva misses a huge right hand, swarms, lands a few more hard shots, a knee, and gets Phillips to the ground.  Phillips gets into half guard.  Phillips postures up and lands some shots to the head and body of Dudieva.  Dudieva is active from the bottom, looking for a kneebar, but Phillips maintains top position.  Phillips misses a heavy right hand as the round ends. scores the round 10-9 Phillips, 20-18 overall.

Round 3:

Dudieva throws a wild overhand right that doesn’t come close.  Phillips continues to circles laterally away from her opponents power strikes.  Dudieva looks for a takedown against the fence, and eventually gets it.  She gives up position yet again, almost gets Phillips in a triangle, but Phillips once again winds up on top, this time in side control with 90 seconds left in the fight.  Not much action as the fight comes to a close, both fighters landing some sporadic short punches and elbows. scores the round 10-9 Phillips, 30-27 overall.

Yao Zhikui vs. Royston Wee

Round 1:

Zhikui comes out extremely aggressive and lands a series of hard shots on Wee.  Wee gets a takedown and takes Zhikui’s back.  Wee looks for a rear-naked choke, lands some short punches from Zhikui’s back.  Zhikui rolls and tries to escape, Wee locks in the body triangle even tighter and keeps looking for the choke.  Zhikui spins, gets on top into Wee’s closed guard and unloads a barrage of punches and elbows, and rides out the last 2 minutes on top of Wee. scores the round 10-9 Wee.  

Round 2:

Wee comes out immediately and lands an inside leg kick that lands right to the groin of Zhikui.  When the action continues, Zhikui lands a few big right hands.  Zhikui is much faster and Wee is not able to get out of the way of Zhikui’s punches.  Wee goes for a takedown and takes Zhikui’s back against the fence.  Wee’s nose is busted up from the punches of Zhikui.  Wee transitions to half guard, landing some short punches to try to advance his position until the round ends. scores the round 10-9 Wee, 20-18 overall.  

Round 3:

Wee looks for a single leg takedown and gets it.  Zhikui briefly looks for a kimura, lands a few short punches.  Wee tries to take Zhikui’s back, was a little too high and Zhikui gets out, and unloads some ground and pound.  Zhikui lands a big elbow with 45 seconds left on the clock.  Zhikui lands another big shot, the hardest punches of the fight coming right at the end. scores the round 10-9 Zhikui, 29-28 overall for Wee.

Wang Anying vs. Colby Covington

Round 1:

Covington lands a high kick and immediately scores a double-leg takedown.  Covington goes for a guillotine and postures up and lands some punches while working to pass Anying’s half guard.  Covington lands some hard shots to Anying’s face while his arm is tied up.  Anying gives up his back, tries to stand up but Covington is in control.  Anying gets back to his feet with 1:30 left in the first round, and Covington gets another takedown.  Huge shots land from Covington who swarms with hammerfists and referee Leon Roberts stops the contest in the final seconds of the round.

Colby Covington def. Wang Anying via submission due to strikes at 4:50 of Round 1.  


Roland Delorme vs. Yuta Sazaki

Round 1:

Sazaki runs out with a flying knee, misses, lands a high kick, then another.  Sazaki shoots for a takedown, takes Delorme’s back, sinks in a rear-naked choke and Delorme taps.

Alberto Mina vs. Shinzo Anzai

Round 1:

Quick start for both men, with Mina landing a left hook and Anzai landing an overhand right.  Anzai hurts Mina with a hard left.  Both guys trade left hooks and clinch up.  Mina lands a knee in the clinch as the break apart. Both guys winging hooks and Anzai gets a takedown.  Mina takes Anzai’s back halfway through the round.  Anzai slips off and they’re back on the feet.  Mina lands a hard uppercut and a knee.  Anzai goes for another takedown but but Mina sprawls out.  Anzai lands some knees, Mina misses a spinning back fist.  Mina shoots, but Anzai defends.  Mina drops Anzai as both guys throw reckless punches.  Another hard shot from Mina and some follow up hammerfists finish the fight.

Wang Sai vs. Danny Mitchell

Round 1:

They touch gloves and Mitchell comes out with a pair of jabs and an inside leg kick.  Sai fires back with an heavy outside leg kick.  Mitchell shoots for a takedown, Sai defends against the fence.  Mitchell switches to a single-leg against the fence, but Sai sprawls out Mitchell jumps into guard.  Mitchell utilizing the rubber guard from his back.  Sai stands up and lands a nice left hand to Mitchell.  He stands up again and dives back in with more punches on Mitchell, who has a hematoma developing from the hard shots landed by Wang Sai.  Short elbows land from Wang Sai in the final seconds of the round. scores the round 10-9 Sai.

Round 2:

Mitchell comes out with a combination and a side kick.  He jumps into standing arm-in guillotine, but Wang Sai gets out.  They clinch up, and Sai lands a nice flurry of punches.  Mitchell gets cracked by a serious right hand from Sai.  Mitchell shoots in and goes for a double leg takedown against the fence.  Sai defends and Mitchell works the footstomp.  Referee Leon Roberts breaks them up with one minute left in round two.  Mitchell misses a spinning back kick.  Both guys throw a few sloppy punches as the round ends. scores the round 10-9 Sai, 20-18 overall.  

Round 3:

Nice start to the third round with a clinch and hard shots thrown by both men.  Mitchell misses a spinning back fist then sneaks in a high kick.  Big right hand from Mitchell gets followed up with a straight punch from Wang Sai.  Another right hand lands from Sai.  Mitchell lands a right hook.  They clinch up again and Mitchell lands some knees.  Outside leg kick from Mitchell.  A hard exchange on the feet sends Wang Sai flying across the cage.  Gritty exchange in the last minute, with both guys throwing hard punches and kicks.  Mitchell shoots against the cage for a double leg, gets it in the final seconds of the fight.
