Urijah Faber has his next opponent, and it’s not a top five ranked 135’er like Raphael Assuncao, it’s the #11 positioned Francisco Rivera.

On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Faber and Rivera have agreed to fight at UFC 181, which will take place December 6th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Faber (31-7) will be fighting for the first time since July, when he tapped out Alex Caceres at UFC 175. The victory returned “The California Kid” to the win column, after he was TKO’d by Renan Barao in February at UFC 169.

Rivera (10-3) will be looking to get back on track, after he lost via unanimous decision to the rugged Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 173 in May. The defeat put an end to Rivera’s six fight undefeated streak, which included four stoppage wins.

So, while it’s a fight maybe not a ton of people were expecting, it has the potential to be an outstanding scrap. It’s also a huge opportunity for the heavy handed Rivera, who could make a big jump up the bantamweight ranks if he wins…

UFC 181 will also include lightweight champ Anthony Pettis vs. Gilbert Melendez and welterweight champ Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler.
