Immediately following Jose Aldo’s wildly entertaining, unanimous decision win over Chad Mendes at UFC 179, he made a reference to a “joker” who was in attendance.

Who was he talking about? Was it Conor McGregor? As everyone assumed?

If you missed it, here is what Aldo said in his in-cage, post-fight interview (quote via

“I’ll face anyone they put in front of me,” Aldo said. “I’m here as a champion, and I think the court is complete now. I’m the king, Chad’s the prince, and now we have a joker.”

The featherweight champ was asked to explain his comment during the post-fight presser, and Aldo confirmed he was indeed talking about McGregor. Of course, the rising fighter has apparently gotten under the skin of Aldo in recent months, by arguing that the champ’s skills are in decline.

The Nova Uniao fighter also said he and McGregor would do a good job promoting a fight, if it in fact happens.

Of course, McGregor is set to fight Dennis Siver on January 18th in Boston. If McGregor wins, then you can bet the UFC will look to book “Notorious” versus Aldo.

UFC 179 went down in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and it marked the second time Aldo has defeated Mendes. In their first meeting, back in January, 2012, Aldo won the fight via first round stoppage.
