If you were really disappointed earlier this month when Ian McCall vs. John Lineker got cancelled, as you should have been, well, you’ll be happy to hear that the flyweight scrap is back on.
As you may recall, the 125 contenders were scheduled to fight at UFC Fight Night 56 on November 8th, and the two had even made weight for the bout. McCall, however, was forced to withdraw at the last moment due to illness.
Well, the UFC has announced that the two will now fight on Janaury 31st, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
McCall (13-4-1) will be looking to extend his winning streak to three, as the well rounded fighter is coming off decision wins over Iliarde Santos and Brad Pickett. The 30 year-old is currently ranked #3 in the UFC’s 125 division.
Lineker (24-7) returned to the win column in July, by taking out Alptekin Ozkilic in the third round. Prior to that the feared slugger was decisioned by Ali Bagautinov in February. The 24 year-old flyweight is ranked #7.
So, that’s a really solid addition to the January 31st card, with “Fight of the Night” potential all over it. If Lineker can score a decisive win, he could be tapped for a title shot.
UFC 183 will feature a middleweight bout between the legendary Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz in the main event.
