It looks like either someone from the UFC or Hector Lombard’s camp has dropped the ball, as the welterweight contender says he was unaware that his April 25th, bout with Rory MacDonald has been cancelled…

If you missed it earlier, the promotion has announced that MacDonald and Lombard will no longer fight at UFC 186 as expected, and that instead, flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson will take on Kyoji Horiguchi. The UFC did not offer any info as to why MacDonald-Lombard has been scratched, but the statement relayed that “updates” regarding the welterweights would be provided when they’re available…

Well, someone must have forgot to pick up a phone, as Lombard recently posted the following statement on Instagram:

I woke up this morning and I got a text from Ariel Helwani that he was sorry for my fight been cancel!
I don’t have a clue at this point, but I trust the UFC made a decision for a good reason!

Helwani also confirmed via Twitter that Lombard didn’t know about the change when they spoke…This isn’t the first time something like this has happened of course, but it will be interesting to see what’s going down.

MacDonald is currently ranked #2 in the UFC’s welterweight division and Lombard is sitting at #5.
