Let’s get to the preliminary fights…

James Moontasri vs. Cody Pfister

Moontasri throws a flying knee as Pfister shoots in. It looks like it landed but not flush. Pfister takes another knee a few moments later but is still working on a takedown. And again, Moontasri cracks Pfister with a hard knee to the body. Moontasri continues to throw acrobatic strikes. Pfister takes a spinning kick and a couple more knees. The lightweight’s chin is made of iron. Pfister shoots in again. Moontasri is working from the top as Pfister holds on to a leg. The latter eats several elbows to the head before the round ends.

Round 2: Pfister comes out firing punches but takes another knee. Wow. He shrugs it off. Pfister attempts another takedown but telegraphs it. Moontasri takes his back. Not long after Moontasri sinks in a rear-naked-choke and that’s it. Impressive win for Moontasri.

Tim Elliott vs. Zach Makovsky 

Elliott comes out firing kicks and punches but gets taken down. Elliott goes for a straight armbar but Makovsky gets out. Elliott works his way back up. Wow. Makovsky shoots in and slams Elliott to the mat. Makovsky scrambles and starts working a north-south choke. Elliott defends and gets back up. One again Makovsky takes the fight back down. Elliott continues to stay busy off his back with elbows and punches. Makovsky passes, however, and moves into the crucifix. Yikes. Makovsky is reinging down punches like they’re going out of style. Round ends.

Round 2: Makovsky goes for a takedown, needs to work for it, but gets it. Elliott gets back up. Makovsky shoots in but Elliott defends with a choke. Makovsky sweeps and takes the top position. Elliott, once again, gets back up and starts attacking with punches. Makovsky plants a left hand. Makovsky gets another takedown. Ref stands the flyweights up. Round ends.

Round 3: Makovsky shoots in but Elliott defends. Latter misses with a knee. Makovsky takes the flyweight down one more time. Elliott just doesn’t have an answer for Makovsky’s wrestling game. Makovsky passes and Elliott turns over. Elliott stands up with Makovsky on his back, slams backwards, but doesn’t shake him off. Makovsky’s looking for the RNC but Elliott is defending. Elliott stands up and slams Makovsky one more time. Now Makovsky is on his back. Too little too late for Elliott. Round ends.

Tim Elliott vs. Zach Makovsky via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3)

Jim Alers vs. Chas Skelly

Skelly lands a couple hard shots to begin the fight. Skelly attempts a kick but winds up getting tripped to the crowd. Wow. Alers jumps on Skelly’s leg and is looking for an inverted ankle lock. Skelly escapes. Now Skelly is looking for a kneebar. The featherweights get back to their feet. Alers plants a hard right but Skelly counters with a left. Skelly pumps in a couple more right hands. Skelly looks for a takedown but can’t get it.

Round 2: Skelly cracks Alers with a stiff upper cut. The latter fires in a leg kick. Skelly comes in charging and plants a right hand. Skelly starts looking for a takedown but Alers is defending well. Skelly shoots in on single leg but Alers keeps standing. Skelly lands a right. Alers is wobbled. Skelly bombs in several more shots and the ref dives in just before the round ends.

Replay shows that Skelly landed an illegal knee to the downed Alers just as ref was jumping in…

Efrain Escudero vs. Rodrigo De Lima

Both lightweights keeping busy to begin the bout. Escudero cracks De Lima with a right hook and the latter wobbles into the cage. De Lima recovers and starts looking for a takedown but gets thrown to the mat. In the ensuing scramble De Lima moves to Escudero’s back. Crazy. Escudero gets back to his feet. De Lima eats a big uppercut and stumbles to mat. De Lima recovers again and is firing knees to Escudero’s shoulder. De Lima sweeps Escudero down. Round ends.

Round 2: Escudero plants a counter left hook but takes an eye poke. Escudero is throwing a nice jab. Latter cracks De Lima with big straight right. De Lima shoots in on a leg but can’t get it. De Lima is working for the take down but is absorbing some nasty elbows to the head. De Lima pulls guard and Escudero lands some shots from above. Wow. Escudero fires down a couple of really hard punches. Round ends.

Round 3: Escudero continues to do some nice work with the jab. De Lima is eating shot after shot. De Lima shoots in and gets the takedown but Escudero sweeps, gets back up. Now Escudero blasts in and gets the takedown. De Lima is hunting for an armbar but Escudero defends. Escudero is tossing in punches from above. De Lima really needs to do something and fast. Yikes. Escudero fires down a couple of hard elbows. Round ends. Nice performance by Escudero.
