The MMA world has been forced to shift gears, following UFC 186 on Saturday, as according to multiple reports Jon Jones has been named a suspect in a hit-and-run accident.

Initially, Albuquerque authorities reported that they wanted to speak with Jones, regarding a vehicular incident that took place in the New Mexico city. At the time, the police would not confirm that the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion was a suspect.

Now, according to follow up reports from MMA and MMA, Jones has officially been named a suspect in the hit-and-run. The incident reportedly sent a pregnant woman to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  According to the latest reports, Albuquerque police have been unable to reach the 27 year-old Jones.

The UFC has also posted the following statement in response:

“We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”

As you probably know, Jones is scheduled to fight Anthony Johnson on May 23rd at UFC 187. As of posting time, that fight is still officially a go…but clearly that could change depending on what transpires in the following days. That card will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will also feature middleweight champion Chris Weidman taking on Vitor Belfort.

In January, Jones made headlines both within MMA circles and the mainstream press, after it was revealed he tested positive for cocaine last December. The news broke not long after Jones decisioned Daniel Cormier at UFC 182 on January 3rd.  Jones briefly spent time at a drug treatment facility, and was fined by the UFC. In 2012, Jones was arrested for a DWI.
