Although it remains to be seen when Jon Jones will step into the Octagon again, Matt Brown believes “Bones” could take the UFC’s heavyweight title if he wants.

Yes, before Jones’ well documented legal issues, the renowned fighter was talking about making a run at heavyweight. After all, Jones has defeated nearly all of the world’s top 205’ers, and isn’t exactly a tiny light-heavyweight either.

Well, as it stands right now, Daniel Cormier, and not Jones is the light-heavyweight champ. But, while appearing on the Great MMA Debate podcast recently, here is what Brown had to say about Jones (quote via FOX

“I wouldn’t give anybody a chance against Jones honestly,” Brown said. “Even at heavyweight, I think Jones would probably win the heavyweight title if he wanted.

“He’d probably have to actually train and build his body for heavyweight and be properly prepared, etc. But yeah, you know.”

That’s some high praise from Brown, and “The Immortal” isn’t the only person who’s expressed this opinion. Back when Cain Velasquez was heavyweight champ, there were certainly folks who believed he could defeat Jones. Since then, however, Velasquez was taken out by Fabricio Werdum in June (who Jones said he would fight “every day, all day”).

Of course, all this talk is premature, considering Jones’ situation, but it will  be interesting to see if renowned fighter does make a run at heavyweight eventually.

Brown, meanwhile, is booked to fight welterweight Kelvin Gastelum on November 21st.
