Although Lyoto Machida has been finished in back-to-back fights, and is 37 years old, the legend hasn’t abandoned his hopes of winning the UFC’s middleweight title.
Machida is coming off consecutive losses to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero, which took place less than a year after he was decisioned by champ Chris Weidman last July. In December, Machida took out CB Dollaway, and currently he’s ranked #5.
“…yes, I think I have many chance, a big chance in this class because I feel like I’m fast, I feel like, strong for the division. I don’t want to move up to light-heavyweight again.”
When you consider Machida’s abilities and what he’s accomplished during his career, writing him off as a contender already is certainly premature. But, “The Dragon” can’t afford to take many more losses, if any, at this stage of the game.
