Following Holly Holm’s devastating, KO win over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, not everyone thinks a rematch should come next, and Kenny Florian is one of these folks.

Holm shocked the world on Saturday night by taking out the heavily favored superstar in round two. Not only did the result blow people’s minds, it was a one sided fight. Even the few observers who predicted Holm to win likely didn’t count on that.

Well, following the card Holm said a rematch with Rousey makes sense, as did Dana White, but others believe Rousey should work on some things before that happens. Daniel Cormier has argued an immediate rematch wouldn’t be wise, and Florian has relayed the same thing.

During a recent episode of the podcast Florian does with UFC play-by-play man Jon Anik, the retired fighter said this (quote via MMA

“I think it would be a very bad mistake to give Ronda Rousey an immediate rematch with Holly Holm,” said Florian. “I’m telling you now, I don’t think she’s ready. I think she needs to revamp her footwork, revamp her striking and know how to face a southpaw like Holly Holm. If she goes in there and loses for a second time the UFC will lose their biggest star.”

“…Rousey has made tremendous gains with her striking, however, when you’re putting your inside left foot on the inside of a southpaw’s lead foot, you’re going to be in-line with the left hand again and again and again. I feel like she wasn’t prepared to fight a southpaw.”

There’s no question that Rousey didn’t appear to have any answers for Holm, however, whether that was the result of a lack of preparation, skill or just getting rocked, is up for debate. Maybe it was a combination of all three?

Rousey recently relayed that she plans to take a break, and that she doesn’t intend to fight prior to next July. So, it will be fascinating to see whether the UFC books Holm for another title defense in the interim.

UFC 193 took place in Melbourne, Australia.
