More than a few folks would love to see Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler throw down for a second time, but based off what Joe Rogan’s been told, the fight’s not going to happen anytime soon.

The fighters went at it way back in 2004, and Diaz knocked Lawler out in round two. If you’re an old school fan, then you’ve probably seen footage of that KO a bazillion times.

Well, due to the fighting style of both men, Diaz – Lawler II is on a lot of people’s wishlists. On a recent episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience“, however, Mr. Rogan reported this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“Apparently they offered Nick Diaz Robbie Lawler and Nick passed on it,” Rogan said. “That’s the word. That’s the word behind the scenes. I wanted to see that fight. I would love to see that rematch. But I think Nick wants a f**king title fight. I think Nick is like, look I want a big, big name or a title fight.”

There you have it. For a lot of people, this is unfortunate news. While Diaz – Lawler II might not send a ton of cash Diaz’s way, one would think it would still be a pretty big fight. Further, since Diaz has gone winless in his last three bouts, and because Lawler is coming off a KO loss to Tyron Woodley, it seems like a fight that makes sense no? If Diaz were to win, then he wouldn’t be far out from fighting for the 170 title. Although, maybe the Stockton star intends to fight at 185 moving forward?

The UFC certainly needs to get both these guys back in fight rotation.
