Dana White has tabled an offer for a Conor McGregor – Floyd Mayweather bout, but the UFC’s President evidently thinks the chances of the fight happening are slim to none.

As you certainly know, talk about McGregor boxing Mayweather has kicked into high gear once again, and as noted above, White’s even made an offer to both men (which Mayweather shot down). At a media event this past weekend, McGregor even said that he believes his next fight will be with Mayweather. He also said that while he believes the UFC should be involved in promoting the fight, McGregor argued that he doesn’t need the promotion to sign off on it.

Well, following UFC on FOX 23 Saturday, White was asked about McGregor – Mayweather. Here’s some of what White had to say about whether he thinks the fight will happen (quote via MMA Fighting):

“When you’re about to do a pay-per-view that you’re charging five bucks to listen to you talk, I’m sure you’ve got to say some pretty crazy s**t, alright?” White said. “You know how I feel about Conor, I’ve always shown Conor nothing but respect, and if he wants to go down that road with us, let me tell you, it will be an epic fall.”

“Will it happen?” White added. “Here’s what I think the chances are: About the same as me being the backup quarterback for Brady on Sunday.”

It’s going to be fascinating to see what transpires in the coming months. If McGregor only wants to pursue a bout with Mayweather, and the UFC decides it can’t or won’t be part of it, things could get dicey. In other words, it could be a while before we see the promotion’s 155 champ fight again.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are booked to fight for the interim lightweight title on March 4th.
