Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes will likely face Renzo Gracie-trained jiu jitsu black belt Ricardo Almeida at UFC 117 on August 7 in Oakland, California, according to ESPN MMA Live’s Franklin McNeil.

Following back-to-back losses to Georges St-Pierre and Thiago Alves, Hughes (44-7) earned a unanimous decision over fellow former title-holder Matt Serra last May before spoiling Gracie’s UFC debut earlier this month at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi with a third-round TKO victory.

Almeida (12-3) ended a near four-year long layoff by returning to the UFC in 2008, earning a 3-1 record at 185-pounds before most-recently scoring a second-round submission of Matt Brown at March’s UFC 111 in his welterweight debut.

UFC 117 has yet to be officially announced, but is expected to be headlined by middleweight champion Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen.
