For a few moments at UFC on FOX 25, it looked like Chris Weidman was about to lose his fourth straight. But, ultimately the former middleweight champ prevailed over the heavy hitting, Kelvin Gastelum.

Weidman took on the rising middleweight in the card’s headliner, which took place in Long Island, New York. Early on, Gastelum sent the New York fighter crashing to the mat with a booming left, but Weidman managed to recover and make it out of the round.

Weidman’s wrestling, however, started to take over the fight, as he was able to take Gastelum down repeatedly. Although the former welterweight kept getting to his feet, Weidman’s confidence appeared to grow as the fight wore on. Then, in round three, Weidman planted some hard punches of his own and took Gastelum to the floor once again. Not long after, Weidman moved into an arm-triangle-choke, and eventually forced Gastelum to tap.

It was a massive win for Weidman, who was coming off losses to Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi. Gastelum, meanwhile, had gone undefeated in three straight bouts heading into tonight, and was coming off impressive performances against Tim Kennedy and Vitor Belfort.
