Following a very brief retirement from fighting, Derrick Lewis has reportedly been booked to fight former heavyweight champ, Fabricio Werdum.

According to a report from MMA Fighting, sources have told Ariel Helwani that the heavyweights will fight October 7th at UFC 216 in Las Vegas.

Lewis is coming off  a stoppage loss to Mark Hunt in June, which snapped his six fight, winning streak. After the loss, Lewis said he was done fighting, and cited a back injury and his desire to spend more time with his family. But, the powerful fighter announced not long after that he had been caught up in the moment, and wanted to keep fighting.

Werdum fought Alistair Overeem last month and lost the fight via decision. Following Werdum’s KO loss to Stipe Miocic last May, the former champ outscored Travis Browne for the UD win.

That’s an interesting and important fight for both men. Both heavyweights need a win to stay in reach of the title shot mix.
