The drama between Paulie Malignaggi and Conor McGregor continues to make headlines, one day out from the latter’s boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.
Earlier in the week, Malignaggi and McGregor had a heated exchange at the fighter arrivals in Las Vegas, which was just the latest incident between the two. As you surely know, if you’ve followed this fight at all, Malignaggi was brought into spar with McGregor, but left after claiming the latter’s team was misleading people on how their sparring went.
Well, if you thought we’d be done talking about Malignaggi, at least for a couple of days, think again. Recently Fight Hype released the video below, in which Mayweather claimed the following (quotes via MMA Fighting):
“My friend, it’s my friend, Paulie,” said Mayweather. “My friend Paulie has always been my friend. You know what, I even told my friend – my friend called me and said, ‘Floyd, do you want me to go to camp?’ I said, ‘Abso-f**king-lutely’.
“Oh don’t worry. Me and Paulie are gonna stay at the house and talk about strategy, we’re gonna talk about everything. Don’t you worry. Paulie, thank you for going over there like I asked you to do. And he made it look good when he grabbed you and threw you down. That was a good one. That was a good one.
“Good work! We got him.”
Meanwhile, as Mayweather talked, Malignaggi repeatedly said “suckers”, so it’s an interesting development to say the least. Did the two truly conspire to spy on McGregor? Tough to say, but odds are no, and that originally, Malignaggi went in to help McGregor prepare for the August 26th bout. But, now that things went off the rails, Malignaggi is going to provide Mayweather with some inside tips on McGregor’s approach. Will that help Mayweather? Again, hard to say. Probably won’t hurt.
Mayweather and McGregor are going to battle at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
