Joe Rogan believes we’ll see Conor McGregor competing in the boxing ring again, but the longtime, UFC commentator is warning the Irish star from throwing hands with “Canelo” Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin.

Although McGregor was eventually stopped by Floyd Mayweather in the 10th round of their massive bout last month, many people were impressed with what the UFC champ showcased in the fight. Many observers, including one judge, scored the first three rounds for McGregor.

Since McGregor was making his pro-boxing debut in the bout, and because he was facing one of the greatest boxers of all time, his performance has left many wondering if he’ll box again. Well, recently Rogan weighed-in on this issue during his podcast, and here’s some of what he had to say (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I don’t think [Conor is done boxing]. Look, he went the very first fight against the greatest ever and he didn’t look too bad. If there’s a legit, big fight – say if Canelo Alvarez steps up and says that he wants to fight Conor McGregor, [Conor] might do it.”

“It wouldn’t be a smart move. The difference between Canelo and Floyd – Floyd was just a brilliant boxer. Canelo is a murderous puncher and he’ll f**k you up. He’ll hurt you.

“[Golvokin] is not a good fight for him either. Neither Canelo nor Golvkin is a good fight for him. They’re terrible fights for him. Those guys are different.”

Rogan raises some good points. McGregor would likely consider boxing again if a big payday was tied to the fight. But, you do have to wonder if facing heavy hitters like Canelo or GGG would be advisable.

In addition, you also have to wonder what kind of market there would be for McGregor – Canelo or McGregor – GGG. Sure, lots of people would like to see it, but since McGregor was ultimately finished by Mayweather, the buzz behind either of those match-ups would likely be far less.

Now, if McGregor returns to the boxing ring, and say, scores a win or two against a notable boxer, then, fights with Canelo or GGG might be absolutely massive.

Canelo and Golovkin faced off this past Saturday, and the controversial fight was scored as a draw. The consensus seems to be that GGG should have been awarded the bout.
