Takanori Gomi isn’t the force he once was, when he was widely regarded to be one of the game’s best fighters, but the lightweight hopes to provide fans with some classic, “Fireball Kid” moments tonight at UFC Fight Night 117.

The former PRIDE champ is booked to take on “Maestro” Dong Hyun Kim at tonight’s event, which will be hosted by the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. If you’re an old school fan of MMA, then you know Gomi has scored some pretty memorable wins in the storied facility.

Recently Gomi spoke to UFC.com about tonight’s bout, and the 39 year-old reported this:

“I hope to show the audience a more exciting fight than the one against Vallie-Flagg,” Gomi said. “I recently relocated my gym and that makes me feel refreshed. I am very motivated for the upcoming fight.”

If you never saw Gomi’s 2014 scrap with Vallie-Flagg, you have some homework to do. That fight marked the last time Gomi recorded a win, as since then, he’s dropped four straight, all four by stoppage. So, one would think the legendary fighter’s in a must win situation tonight.
