2017 could close out with Jose Aldo back on top of the featherweight throne, as the former champ’s agreed to face Max Holloway at UFC 218.

The opportunity came about after Frankie Edgar was forced to drop out of his December 2nd fight with Holloway, due to a reported, broken orbital bone. Aldo, who was stopped by Holloway in round three this past June, was already preparing for a December 16th scrap with Ricardo Lamas.

It’s not clear yet what the plan is for Lamas, and whether the UFC will attempt to find the featherweight a replacement opponent.

So, this is an interesting twist for the upcoming card, which will take place in Detroit, Michigan. Can Holloway defend the belt and move his awe inspiring winning streak to 12?
