After suffering his fifth straight loss in September, it’s being reported that former PRIDE champ Takanori Gomi, has been released by the UFC.

Gomi took on lightweight Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 117, and was quickly put away by the South Korean fighter. According to a report from Combate, and a follow up report from MMA Fighting, the Japanese star is one of five fighters who’ve been released.

The others include Hacran Dias, Henrique da Silva, Adriano Martins and Carlos Felipe.

So, this news regarding Gomi shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering he has just one win in his last seven bouts.

“The Fireball Kid” made his way to the UFC in 2010 with a lot of buzz amongst hardcore fans, due to what he accomplished in Japan and fighting for PRIDE.
