Last week, it looked like Cris “Cyborg” and Holly Holm weren’t going to fight in 2017, but the UFC’s announced that the stars will battle on December 30th at UFC 219.
Several days ago, Holm’s manager reported that talks for the championship fight were pretty much done. But then earlier this week, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported that the bout might get finalized after all.
The fight will mark the first time “Cyborg” has competed, since she laid claim to the vacant featherweight title in July, by stopping Tonya Evinger. Holm fought one month earlier, and knocked out Bethe Correia. In February, Holm was matched up against Germaine de Randamie to determine the UFC’s first, women’s featherweight champ, and the latter won the belt via decision (de Randamie was eventually stripped of the title).
So, this is a crucial booking for UFC 219, considering the card’s six weeks out. Interestingly, the UFC did not announced that “Cyborg” – Holm is the main event, so, the promotion is likely trying to book another big fight.
UFC 219 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
