One of Jose Aldo’s most feared weapons wasn’t featured much in his first bout with Max Holloway in June, and the former featherweight champ plans to change that in their rematch at UFC 218.
Aldo faced Holloway back in June, and ended up being stopped by the rising star in round three. After the bout, there was a lot of discussion as to why Aldo didn’t fire off many leg kicks, which he’s used to brutalize opponents in the past.
Well, not long after, Aldo’s head coach, Andre Pederneira, reported that a leg injury was why, the legend hadn’t utilized the effective technique. So, assuming Aldo’s healthy, this is why he recently told the media this (quote via MMA Junkie):
“They can expect the best kickboxing, the best muay Thai,” Aldo said. “I’m going for it all the time. I want to kick a lot in this fight. I want to lay hands, too. Everything I’ve learned recently, I want to go in there and I want to implement it. ”
There you have it. Pederneiras was also asked about the fact Aldo plans to kick more, and he said this:
“When you take someone’s best weapon, and you give it back to them, it’s certainly going to make a difference.”
So, it’s going to be really interesting how the rematch unfold, if in fact, Aldo fires in more leg kicks at Holloway.
UFC 218 will go down in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday.
