Recently Dana White relayed that Volkan Oezdemir’s recent arrest likely wouldn’t lead to him losing an expected title shot with Daniel Cormier, and now the UFC’s officially announced the match-up.

The promotion has confirmed that Oezdemir will challenge the light-heavyweight champ at UFC 220, which will take place on January 20th in Boston.

Oezdemir (15-1) was recently arrested for aggravated battery, following a reported bar room altercation in South Florida. The fighter’s manager has claimed that Oezdemir wasn’t the aggressor, and that he’ll be “vindicated”.

In the Octagon, Oezdemir has gone 3-0, and has scored quick, knockout wins over Jimi Manuwa and Misha Cirkunov.

Cormier (19-1) was reinstated as the 205 champ last year, after Jon Jones, who stopped him in their July rematch, tested positive for a steroid. Prior to that bout Cormier had won four in a row.

So, this news shouldn’t come as a surprise really, especially since #1 contender Alexander Gustafsson recently underwent shoulder surgery.
