As this is being written, the bout hasn’t been announced yet, but it looks like Robert Whittaker and Luke Rockhold will be fighting at UFC 221, February 10th.

Recently MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported that the UFC was looking at Whittaker – Rockhold for the Perth, Australia card, and now the outlet’s reporting the bout is almost finalized.

If the bout is signed, it will happen one day after Georges St-Pierre relayed he likely will not defend the middleweight title he won last month.  The aforementioned report says it’s not yet known, if the Whittaker – Rockhold bout would be for the undisputed middleweight title, or the interim belt.

Whittaker won the interim title in July, by earning a decision win over Yoel Romero. The former champ Rockhold, meanwhile, is coming off a stoppage win over David Branch in September.

So, in light of GSP’s recent comments, and the confirmation he’s battling colitis, one would think the UFC’s likely moving ahead, and that this bout will crown a new, undisputed champ.
