If you thought Manny Pacquiao’s recent teaser about the possibility of fighting Conor McGregor was nothing, well, it looks like that might not be the case.
Last month Pacquiao raised eyebrows throughout combat sports, by telling McGregor to “stay fit” next year via social media. The post also included the hash tag, realboxingmatch.
Well, it seemed like most folks in the MMA world quickly moved on from the post. But, now Pacquiao has told the AFP that his team has contacted McGregor’s reps about fighting in April, 2018.
The Filipino superstar also said that no follow up talks have taken place, but clearly he’s interested in boxing McGregor. Paquiao’s also interested in boxing Keith Thurman and Jeff Horn, who earned a controversial decision over him in July.
Now, one would think that because McGregor went through 2017 without stepping in the Octagon, that this won’t happen. But, you just never know.
UFC boss man Dana White has said that McGregor needs to defend the promotion’s lightweight title, but, he also recently relayed that the promotion’s officially getting into boxing.
McGregor faced undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather in August, in what was one of the biggest bouts in combat sports history. Mayweather stopped the UFC champion in round ten.
