If Fabricio Werdum does end up fighting for the heavyweight belt in his next scrap, it looks like he believes it will be against Francis Ngannou.

Following Werdum’s decision win over Marcin Tybura at UFC FN 121 last month, the former heavyweight champ made his case for a title shot. Since then, however, Ngannou bombed out Alistair Overeem at UFC 218, and now he’s expected to face the champ, Stipe Miocic, on January 20th.

Well, recently Werdum was asked to weigh-in on the contest while speaking to Portal do Vale Tudo, and “Vai Cavalho” said this (translation via Bloody Elbow):

“Ngannou has a lot of power, but I don’t think he’s very technical. However, I still believe he’ll surprise Miocic and knock him out. They both enjoy trading shots, so if Miocic doesn’t have the right strategy, that big black guy will knock him out. Ngannou is very confident and that can make a difference, if he really connects, you’re going down, as we saw with Overeem.”

How about that? Werdum also reportedly said that he can picture himself submitting Ngannou, and that he believes he’ll reclaim the belt. Thoughts?

UFC 220 will take place on January 20th in Boston.
