Recently Joe Rogan raised eyebrows throughout the combat sports world, by relaying that Dana White confirmed to him personally, that Floyd Mayweather is interested in signing with the UFC. Well, now the UFC President has also confirmed to ESPN the promotion is indeed, in talks with the undefeated, boxing star.
In the aforementioned report, White is quoted saying:
“We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It’s real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media, and then that s— ends up happening.
“We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f—ing happened. Anything is possible.”
So, ya. Clearly this story has some legs. Obviously talking and signing a deal, with one of the highest paid athletes of all time, are two different things. But, as White alluded to, no one thought Mayweather and McGregor would box either.
If this does, actually happen, getting Mayweather sanctioned to fight a MMA fighter with a lot of experience and credentials, like McGregor, would probably be very, very tough. Then again…
