A day rarely goes by where there isn’t at least some talk about when and who Conor McGregor is going to fight next, and according to what Kevin Lee’s heard, it looks like it will be against Tony Ferguson.

Yes, even before McGregor was stopped by boxing star, Floyd Mayweather on August 26th, folks were already looking forward to the UFC champ’s next bout in the Octagon. Back then, the consensus was that it would likely be a rubber match with Nate Diaz. But, after the massive boxing match, the tide shifted, and many folks, even members of McGregor’s camp, predicted it would be against the interim 155 champ, Mr.Ferguson.

Well, more recently, McGregor said he intends to return to the Octagon, while shooting down talk that he might box Manny Pacquiao. But, as 2017 winds down, nothing has been announced.

Lee recently appeared on MMA Junkie Radio, and here’s what the promising fighter reported about McGregor (quote via MMA Mania):

“Either that, or something crazy is going to happen there,” Lee said, while possibly alluding to say a bout with Georges St-Pierre, or something else unexpected. “But, at least I think everything that I’ve seen and all the little whispers that I’ve heard, he comes back, he fights Tony.”

“I don’t think he beats Tony,” Lee added “There ain’t no way. Tony’s going to be way too experienced, Tony’s going to be way too tough… He’s going to be too much for him. So I’m interested to see that fight. I wish they would just go ahead and make the damn fight happen already. I hear it’s supposed to go down in March, so we’ll see.”

This is very interesting to hear, and a March bout, particularly on March 17th, would make a lot of sense right? Although, it was reported in early December that Ferguson underwent elbow surgery, so, this wouldn’t allow for much recovery time.

Now of course, we don’t know who Lee’s sources are, and how accurate the information is. It could also be a situation where perhaps the UFC is, or was, hoping to book the fight for that date. McGregor has relayed that he’s currently negotiating a new deal with the promotion, which could be another, significant hurdle for a March return.
