Although Conor McGregor has said himself that he wants to return to the cage for his next bout, if the UFC champ starts thinking otherwise, it sounds like his head coach will have something to say about it.

Following McGregor’s stoppage loss to undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather in August, there has been talk / rumours that the Irish star could consider taking another boxing match. But, when McGregor’s been asked about his future, he’s said he wants a “true fight” next.

Well, recently his head coach, John Kavanagh, spoke to the BBC. The SBG leader said he’s not certain what’s next for McGregor, but he did relay this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“You want to know my opinion?” said Kavanagh. “I’ll be pushing very hard for MMA. The boxing was a nice detour from what we’ve done but mixed martial arts is my passion so if I have anything to do with it, he’ll be in the octagon this year.”

Hopefully this ends up going down, and we get to see McGregor defend the 155 title sooner than later.
