As it looks right now, Darren Till could be headed to some pretty nice paydays in 2018. But, it doesn’t sound like the British fighter will be spending his dough on ridiculously, expensive hardware like other stars…

2017 was a break out year for Till, as the welterweight went 3-0, and in his last outing, he destroyed rugged vet, Donald Cerrone. As a result his run, and the striking abilities he’s showcased in the cage, Till is widely considered to be one of the UFC’s fastest rising commodities.

But, despite his recent successes, Till told MMA Junkie that he’s still living very modestly. In fact, the 25 year-old resides in his Uncle’s spare bedroom, and while his car was in the shop, Till was taking the bus. In addition, the charismatic fighter also said this:

“As long as I can eat and buy a pair of trainers (shoes), I’m happy,” Till said. “I’m a very content and happy man. I don’t care about the Mercs and Lamborghinis. You can leave that for the show ponies, who post all that on Instagram. I just want to work hard and talk (expletive).”

That’s the kind of rhetoric many hardcore fans love to hear no? Till was also asked about his desire to fight Stephen Thompson, who is currently ranked six spots ahead of him at #1. Till said he’s not trying to jump the title shot line, but rather:

“He’s an excellent fighter, one of the best, and I don’t want to fight him for an easy route to the title, but because I want to test myself against the best. If he’s the guy to beat me and take all my momentum, then fair play to him. But I don’t believe he could do it.”

There you have it. Unfortunately for striking enthusiasts, Thompson’s Father has already put the breaks on the match-up, by arguing Till needs to beat some top contenders first.

With the UFC heading to London, England for a March 17th card, one would think the promotion’s driving hard to find Till an opponent for that date.
