Following talk that Conor McGregor offered to fight Frankie Edgar at UFC 222, for a new, 165 title, Diego Sanchez has floated a pretty interesting idea.
After McGregor recently reported that he had offered to face Edgar at the March 3rd event, the latter’s manager claimed the star’s offer, was contingent on a 165 belt being on the line. Well, the UFC hasn’t said much about creating a 165 division, but recently Sanchez posted the comments below, in the hopes of moving things in that direction.
@thenotoriousmma come on brother we need 165lb weight you have the power with @ufc and @danawhite to make it happen! #first3divisionchampionfight and winner goes down as the #realgoat #millions #thesportneedsthisweightclass @georgesstpierre talks 155? 165 is realistic #makeithappen @audieattar #historyinthemaking
As it stands right now, McGregor is expected to fight the winner of the April 7th, Tony Ferguson – Khabib Nurmagomedov bout next. But, you never know. Maybe the chance for both Georges St-Pierre and Conor McGregor to win an historic, third title, might make this fight a reality?
