Although John Lineker didn’t sound too interested in fighting Brian Kelleher, after the latter called him out last month, it’s being reported the two are going to throw hands.
Kelleher relayed that he wants to face the bantamweight contender, after he earned a decision win over Renan Barao at UFC on FOX 28. Lineker, however, noted that because he’s a top ten ranked 135’er, and Kelleher isn’t, the bout didn’t make sense.
Lineker also relayed, however, that he wouldn’t say no, and according to an initial report from Combate, and a second report from MMA Fighting, the fight will be part of UFC 224. The card is taking place on May 12th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lineker (30-8) will be fighting for the first time since last October, when he earned a decision win over Marlon Vera. The heavy handed fighter has gone 4-1 in his last 5 bouts.
Kelleher (19-8) is also 4-1 in his last 5 contests, and has gone 3-1 to date in the UFC.
UFC 224’s main event will see bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes take on Raquel Pennington.
