UFC Fight Night 128 has officially lost two fights today, instead of one, as Aspen Ladd and Leslie Smith will no longer throw down on Saturday.
At today’s early weigh-ins, Ladd came in at 137.8 pounds for the bantamweight fight. Initially, it was believed the bout would continue, but then Ladd shared out the comments below. In addition, Smith also informed MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani that she will receive both her show and win money, but that the UFC is now renewing her contract.
A flyweight fight between Ulka Sasaki and Magomed Bibulatov was also scratched today, as the latter has reportedly injured his back.
UFC FN 128 will take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
I apologize to my opponent Leslie Smith, the fans and the UFC. I missed weight by 1.8 lbs due do to certain female circumstances. Regardless, it’s not an excuse, we consulted with the doctor and a decision was made not to continue cutting weight. We made every effort with the UFC to keep the fight alive, even offered Leslie an additional $5,000 on top of my 20% purse deduction. The UFC told me Leslie will not accept the fight. I would kindly ask the UFC to rebook this fight assuming Leslie will take at the earliest convenience anywhere in the world. Sorry everyone I understand I'll get a lot of hate from some; shit happens, I'm sorry. Back home back to work.
Here’s @LeslieSmith_GF’s side of today’s story. As you can read, she is claiming the UFC is paying her her show and win money but she added in a follow up that her understanding is that means her contract has been fulfilled. No word from UFC officials yet. pic.twitter.com/UvCZALSpTm
