Everyone and their dog expected tonight’s Francis Ngannou – Derrick Lewis bout to provide fireworks, but the co-main event for UFC 226 ended up being a complete snooze fest.
Ngannou moved forward in the opening round, but was hesitant to fire any strikes. Lewis, meanwhile, countered with several kicks and the odd punch. Joe Rogan reported that Lewis told his corner in between rounds that his back was bothering him.
Round two saw more of the same, as Ngannou hardly threw anything, while Lewis was a bit busier. The action was so limited, at one point, referee Herb Dean warned both heavyweights to engage.
The heavyweights picked up the pace late in round three, but not nearly enough to prevent the fans from booing relentlessly. Rogan questioned if it was the worst heavyweight fight in UFC history….
