It looks like Volkan Oezdemir’s legal issues are behind him, as it’s being reported that charges brought against him last year in South Florida have been dropped.
The light-heavyweight was arrested last November and charged with aggravated battery – causing bodily harm or disability”, after Oezdemir was accused of knocking out a man outside a bar in Fort Lauderdale. The fighter’s legal team, however, claimed Oezdemir acted in self defense.
According to a new report from MMA Fighting, authorities have dropped the charges, due to a “lack of cooperation from the victim.”
Oezdemir is booked to fight fellow light-heavyweight contender, Alexander Gustafsson, at UFC 227, August 4th. It will mark the first time the Swiss fighter has competed since he was stopped by champion Daniel Cormier in January.
