It looks like Max Holloway and Brian Ortega will fight in 2018 after all, as it’s being reported that the featherweights have verbally agreed to battle at UFC 231.
Ortega was supposed to face the featherweight champ at UFC 226 last month, but after experiencing concussion like symptoms, Holloway was pulled from the card. It hasn’t been clear when the Hawaiian star would be ready to compete, but sources have told MMA Junkie Holloway and Ortega have agreed to fight on December 8th in Toronto. The all-star bout is expected to be finalized soon.
So, obviously this is huge news, if in fact the fight get’s done. There have been concerns that Holloway could be out for a prolonged period of time, but it looks like that won’t be the case.
Due to some sort of medical issue, Holloway has had to pull out of three fights in 2018. The last time the 26 year-old fought was last December, when he stopped Jose Aldo for a second time.
Ortega, meanwhile, locked up a title shot by taking out Frankie Edgar this past March.
