Junior dos Santos clearly isn’t done being one of the UFC’s top heavyweights, so what could be next for the former champ? Following UFC Wichita? What about a fight with Francis Ngannou?

Dos Santos faced Derrick Lewis in the headliner of Saturday’s card, and he proceeded to finish the heavy-handed fighter in round two. JDS appeared to hurt Lewis badly with a spinning kick to the body in the opening frame, and not long into round, he put away the contender with a flurry of punches.

With the win, dos Santos moved his winning streak to three, and he could be returning to the division’s top five. Heading into this weekend’s action, Lewis was ranked #3 and JDS was #8.

Following the win, dos Santos was asked about the possibility of facing another of the division’s noted pugilists, the aforementioned Ngannou (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“I think that would be great,” dos Santos said. “It should’ve happened in the past, but because of something weird it didn’t happen. Maybe now it can happen.”

“Right now I need a break. I need to stay active that’s the most important thing right now. Before my career comes my family. My daughter is born in May. I need to get ready to receive her. … I’ll fight again maybe at the end of August.”

So we’ll see what happens. The feared slugger, who is coming off quick wins over Cain Velasquez and Curtis Blaydes, tweeted out this last night.

If the current champ, Daniel Cormier, does indeed face Brock Lesnar next, a bout between JDS and Ngannou makes a lot of sense.
